چکیده
Valve stiction is the most common root of oscillation faults in process control systems, and it can cause severe deterioration performance system instability, ultimately impacting product quality safety. A new method for detecting valve stiction, based on dynamic slow feature analysis (DSFA) Hurst exponent, proposed this paper. The first utilizes DSFA to extract features (SFs) from preprocessed reconstructed data controller output controlled variable; then, calculates exponent slowest SF quantify its long-term correlation; and, finally, defines a detection index identify stiction. results obtained simulations actual case studies demonstrate that method, DSFA–Hurst effectively detect loops.

Detection and Quantification of Control Valve Stiction
Stiction is one of the most common problems in the spring-diaphragm type control valves, which are widely used in the process industry. Although there have been many attempts to understand and detect stiction in control valves, none of the current methods can simultaneously detect and quantify stiction. There is thus a clear need in the process industry for a non-invasive method that can not on...
متن کاملA Simple Harmonics Based Stiction Detection Method
Oscillation or large variability of the control loops results decreased economical advantage to process industries due to inferior quality products, larger rate of rejections, reduced average throughputs and overall increased energy requirements. Stiction is one of the root cause of oscillation. Many studies suggest that 30% of the control loops are oscillatory because of control valve problems...
متن کاملEstimating the Hurst Exponent
The Hurst Exponent is a dimensionless estimator for the self-similarity of a time series. Initially defined by Harold Edwin Hurst to develop a law for regularities of the Nile water level, it now has applications in medicine and finance. Meaningful values are in the range [0, 1]. Different methods for estimating the Hurst Exponent have been evaluated: The classical “Rescaled Range” method devel...
متن کاملPosture Recognition Based on Slow Feature Analysis
Basic postures such as sit, stand and lie are ubiquitous in human interaction. In order to build robots that aid and support humans in their daily life, we need to understand how posture categories can be learned and recognized. This paper presents an unsupervised learning approach to posture recognition for a biped humanoid robot. The approach is based on Slow Feature Analysis (SFA), a biologi...
متن کاملEstimation of Hurst exponent revisited
In order to estimate the Hurst exponent of long-range dependent time series numerous estimators such as based e.g. on rescaled 9 range statistic (R/S) or detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA) are traditionally employed. Motivated by empirical behaviour of the bias of R/S estimator, its bias-corrected version is proposed. It has smaller mean squared error than DFA and behaves comparably 11 to wav...
